The head of EEU’s distribution rehabilitation department Gosaye T/Wolde commented that power grid renovation projects are needed to support the rapidly increasing energy demand in the country’s capital.

He emphasised the department has already completed the preliminary works for carrying out the fourth phase of the distribution network improvement project, aimed at providing quality and reliable electricity supply to its customers.

The project will include the replacement of old distribution lines, renovation and reconstruction works, with the scope of works including 19 km of underground lines, 9 km of the new overhead main line, 647 km of the existing line rehabilitation, installation of 2000 new distribution transformers and three switching stations.

“The project will be divided into two parts of the city, the first one will be done in the south and east part of the city and the second one will be done in north and west of Addis Ababa,” said Gosaye, adding that the World Bank will provide a loan of $57.5 M for the project.
