Australia, Canberra: Transgrid has installed the first 1,500 steel towers of EnergyConnect, a power transmission project to interconnect New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.

The $1.8 billion EnergyConnect project will integrate renewable energy into the grid and help Australia meet its emissions reduction targets.

“We are getting on with the job of delivering the critical infrastructure needed to provide Australian households and businesses with cheaper, more reliable and sustainable energy. The raising of our first transmission towers on EnergyConnect is yet another significant milestone in building the energy superhighway to accelerate the nation’s clean energy future,” said Brett Redman, CEO of Transgrid.

Meanwhile, expansion work on the Transgrid’s Buronga substation is in full swing, making it a major hub for energy sharing among the three provinces. Substation workbench earthwork is complete and a concrete foundation is being poured to hold the synchronous condensers and transformers at the centre of the facility.
