Germany, Augsburg: Transformers Magazine’s team has talked with Angelika Rami, Sales Manager for electrical insulating varnishes, Rembrandtin Coatings GmbH, at Coiltech Deutschland 2023.

We are at Coiltech Deutschland in Augsburg, and we are talking with Angelika Rami, Sales Manager for electrical insulating varnishes at Rembrandtin. Angelika, thank you for giving this interview for Transformers Magazine. Please, tell us about your participation in this show. How do you find it and what are you presenting this year?

I’m working for Rembrandtin Coatings GmbH, and we are very excited about this exhibition. As you know, we sell electrical insulating varnishes for the steel industry, especially for the e-mobility sector, as well as for transformers, generators, wind generators and the general industry. This exhibition has proven to be very successful for us, we really have had the chance to talk with different OEMs concerning our new developments like the fast bonding varnish EB 549 RAPiD as well as to our key customers – different steel mills from all over the globe.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the products for transformers that you are presenting here?

Our experts have developed an innovative water-borne chromium-free coating system which serves as electrical insulation for grain-oriented steel, which is used especially for transformers and generators. We have some prototypes for GO coatings like the EB 5320, we have this coating in a pigmented version as well as in a clear version. This is a game changer for coating grain-oriented steel since it’s chromium-free.

When you say it’s a chromium-free coating, what does it mean for your customer? What is the problem with chromium, apart from the fact that it is poisonous? So, what other aspects are there?

The European Union might prohibit chromium coatings in the near future entirely. Therefore, our experts worked intensively on a new chromium-free coating system.  Sustainability is very important for our company. So, in order to meet these goals, we have developed this product for grain-oriented electrical steel, which is used for transformers.

As far as I know, we can say that Rembrandtin is a chromium-free company because you don’t use chromium in any of your products. And what was interesting to me to hear is that you develop these new coatings in co-creation with your customers. Can you say something about this?

As we have a high customer orientation it is important to us to develop our products according to the needs of our customers and of the market. Therefore, we have a close relationship with our customers as we want to meet their individual requirements. However, the design responsibility is owned by us.

Angelika thanks a lot for this interview.
