Ghana, Accra: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a grant of $28.5 M to Ghana for the construction of renewable energy infrastructure.

The new infrastructure is to increase renewable energy utilisation in the country by 10 % by 2030.

The funding through the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) is planned to support the construction of mini-grids, standalone solar PV systems, and solar-based battery facilities for storing excess power.

With this most recent approval, a total cost of $85.2 M has now been secured.

The project comprises the design, engineering, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of renewable energy systems in the Volta Lake region.

Under the New Deal on Energy for Africa, AfDB is promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Africa and electrification of the continent as part of its High 5 priority objectives on the improvement of the continent’s socioeconomic development.
