India, Kerala: German development bank KfW has approved a loan intended for the development of a power transmission project supporting renewable energy projects in India.

The funding will enable the construction of a power transmission project worth $177 M (Rs 14.5 B), which will be used for the evacuation of power from solar and wind energy projects planned in Kerala.

The transmission project is part of the Green Energy Corridor program — a countrywide project to set up a network of transmission infrastructure for the evacuation of renewable energy.

The first phase of the Green Energy Corridor program was launched in 2015. According to the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, it had a target to set 9,767 km of transmission lines and 22.6 GW of substations. As of November 2022, 8,697 km of transmission lines and 19.8 GW of substations had already been commissioned.
