Nepal, Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced that it has recently received a batch of eco-friendly power distribution transformers.

The provider of the new 500 kVA transformers is Ekarat Engineering Pvt Ltd, which has donated the transformers to the utility free of charge.

Each transformer is worth approximately $40,000 (Rs. 3.2 M) and it has been installed at the main utility premises in Ratnapark.

The units were designed by the German transformer manufacturer Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR), with advanced vacuum on-load tap-changer technology and filled with eco-friendly vegetable oil produced by American company Cargill.

NEA has said the transformer can help prevent various incidents that could occur during the electricity supply process and can also be installed on the same utility pole.
