Hungary, Budapest: Ganz is performing service works at one of Egypt’s key hydroelectric power plants, Esna Power Plant.

Transformer, high-performance electric motor and generator manufacturing and high-voltage device servicing company, Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines Ltd., is carrying out a major, multi-phase service project at Esna Power Plant in 2023. The hydroelectric power plant has a 100.8 MVA capacity and produces almost 473 GWh of electricity per year.

In the first phase of service works, which ended in May 2023, Ganz carried out the maintenance of a 16.8 MVA hydrogen generator. Subsequently, by the end of 2023, the company’s technicians will refurbish 2 more generator units.

During maintenance work carried out since the beginning of 2023, Ganz specialists produced stator coils required for the operation of a 16.8 MVA three-phase horizontal hydrogen generator. In addition to this, Ganz’s technicians also provide on-site professional supervision of the coiling process, as well as the generator unit disassembly and assembly works.

The renovation of the hydrogen generator is the first part of the cooperation including the renovation of three generator units with Mot-GEN MEA, a rotating and mechanical machine supply company from Cairo. At the same time, Ganz is also currently producing additional coils for the generator units that provide energy to the power plant’s electricity production. According to preliminary plans, the entire service project will be completed at the end of 2023.

“The fact that Ganz’s experts are carrying out a year-round, multi-phase maintenance in Egypt is of great importance to our company, as in recent months we have put great emphasis on improving the quality of the work provided by our Service Division. The launch of Ganz Intelligent Solutions was an important step in this process, because the digital condition monitoring system has become an essential part of our maintenance strategy. Ganz’s value creation is also reflected in the fact that, almost uniquely in the power transmission and distribution sector, we now cover the entire spectrum of customer needs, from the design and manufacture of electrical machinery to the full maintenance of the units,” said Jan Prins, Managing Director of Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines Ltd.
