Hawaii, Maui: Hawaiian Electric has continued with its power restoration efforts in fire-stricken Maui.

Hawaiian Electric has restored power of more than 80 % customers, while more than 90 % of Maui customers now have electricity.

Power has been restored to one of West Maui County’s wastewater pumping stations and energization of the second mobile substation in the Lahaina area has also been completed. Crews are working to build new distribution lines from the mobile substation to complete restoration to customers in the Launiupoko to Olowalu area.

Approximately 1,800 customers in West Maui and 50 customers affected with pocket outages in Upcountry are without power.

1067 m (3,500 feet) of specialized cables from Hawaii Island used in particular areas of Upcountry and supplies required for additional repair work are expected to arrive on Maui soon.

The utility is coordinating with federal, state and county response teams on restoration efforts. More than 400 employees and contractors, including those from Hawaii Island, Lanai, Molokai and Oahu, are on Maui to help with restoration work.
