Nigeria, Anambra: A man was electrocuted while allegedly attempting to vandalise a transformer.

An unidentified man was electrocuted on September 4th while allegedly attempting to vandalise a transformer in Amawbia community in Awka South Local Council of Anambra State in Nigeria.

An eyewitness said the deceased and members of his gang came to vandalise electrical wire installations from a transformer in front of a hotel when the incident happened. The witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspect had taken advantage of the four-day power outage, which affected the state capital to carry out the act. According to him, the deceased was, however, unlucky as light was restored by Enugu Electrical Distribution Company (EEDC) at midnight while he was disconnecting the cables.

He said: “Luck ran out on one of them who was disconnecting the wires when EEDC suddenly restored power at about 12 midnight, and he was electrocuted. “Immediately his gang discovered that their colleague had been electrocuted, they fled with the wires they had already vandalised, and abandoned their colleague. “His lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of yesterday.”
