China, Chongqing: Hitachi Energy has inaugurated its new transformers factory in Liangjiang New Area, Chongqing Municipality.
Hitachi Energy inaugurated its new state-of-the-art transformers factory in Liangjiang New Area, southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality.
One of the largest of Hitachi Energy facilities globally, the leading-edge smart facility incorporates the latest digital manufacturing technologies. It reinforces Hitachi Energy’s commitment to meet the fast-growing customer demand.
Claudio Facchin, Hitachi Energy CEO said that the energy transition in China requires deployment of innovative technologies at scale and with speed. He added that the new facility is a good example of the needed collaboration with partners and all involved stakeholders and another example of Hitachi Energy’s commitment to accelerate investment in innovation, digitalization and people to support customers to advance the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible and secure.
The facility was originally established in 1998 and is the company’s first joint venture in western China. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of Hitachi Energy’s largest transformer research and manufacturing bases. It provides power transformers, shunt reactors, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter transformers, insulation kits, and services.
The company relocated to Liangjiang New Area in early 2023, transforming itself into a modern intelligent factory with significantly improved production efficiency. With the use of industrial automation and robotics, the manufacturing processes have become faster and more precise. Energy management systems have been put in place to facilitate real-time acquisition, analysis, and the timely maintenance of equipment and production data, ensuring cost-effectiveness throughout the value chain. In line with the company’s sustainability efforts, the modern factory has incorporated environmentally responsible measures to reduce the overall carbon footprint.
Around 2,000 power transformers have been delivered out of the Chongqing factory to key projects such as Three Gorges hydro project; Changji-Guquan, the world’s first ±1,100 kV ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission link; Longdong-Shandong ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project; and Al Dhafra PV2 solar project in Abu Dhabi.
