USA, Melba: Canyon County Sheriff’s Office has issued an update to a battery fire that started at the Idaho Power substation in Melba on Monday.

As of publication, the fire continues to burn, and the barrier set up around the site on Monday remains in place, according to CCSO. Battery fires can burn extensively due to their chemical makeup and contents. Authorities have said that since the area has been contained and no other structures or equipment are in immediate danger, letting the fire burn out would be best.

Road closures in the Hill Road area, east of Base Line Road, Base Line Hill, and the South Powerline Road and Base Line Road intersection will likely stay in effect throughout Wednesday night. The public is asked to stay away from the area to allow crews to continue safely monitoring the situation. Idaho Power reports no other equipment has been damaged, and they do not expect any customer outages.
