Finland, Helsinki: Fingrid will start constructing the 300 km Lake Line in autumn 2023 and post an expropriation permit from the government.

Fingrid will start constructing the 300 km Lake Line, a transmission line to run through Vaala, Kajaani, Sonkajarvi, Vierema, Iisalmi, Lapinlahti, Siilinjarvi, Kuopio, Suonenjoki, Leppavirta, Pieksamaki and Joroinen, in autumn 2023 and post an expropriation permit from the government.

The company is planning to initiate clearing trees from the transmission line right-of-way and build the foundations for the line between Kajaani, Iisalmi and Lapinlahti in October or November.

The line, expected to be commissioned by the end of 2026, will help produce renewable energy and connect it to the main grid, strengthening the electricity transmission capacity.

The transmission line will help Finland achieve its climate goals by permitting new energy production facilities to connect to the main electricity transmission grid. It will also ensure that Fingrid remains a single market area for electricity pricing, one of its obligations under the Electricity Market Act.
