We mourn the loss of prof. Tomislav Kelemen, PhD, an outstanding personality who dedicated his life to the advancement of transformers.

Born on 17 February 1932 in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tomislav Kelemen was a distinguished scientist and electrical engineer. He completed his studies and further research at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, where he worked until 2002, rising to the position of a full professor by 1984. He received his doctorate in 1974, and he began working at the faculty in 1957 as an assistant in the subject of Theoretical Electrical Engineering until 1966. In 1962, he was elected assistant professor in the subject of Electrical Machines I, which he taught at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding in Split. He was the secretary of the Technical Committee for Measuring Transformers (JEK-IEC) from 1962 to 1982, the president of the Juko-CIGRÉ Study Committee for Transformers from 1976 to 1984, and vice-president from 1996.  His expertise also took him to the Končar factory, where he was an innovative transformer designer from 1962 to 1990, and to the Končar Institute of Electrical Engineering from 1991 to 2002. His work focused on pioneering research and the development of transformers for various applications.

His awards include the prestigious “Nikola Tesla” Scientific Award in 1966, the annual Končar company award in 1969, and the National Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He was a distinguished member of the Croatian Academy of Technical Sciences since 1995.
