Hungary, Tápiószele: The construction of Ganz’s 2 MW solar park in Tápiószele has officially started, and the plant is expected to start generating electricity in 2024.

The construction of 2 MW solar park of Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating machines Ltd. in Tápiószele has officially started. Thanks to the development carried out within the framework of the Energy Optimization Programme worth about €11 million, from 2024 a significant portion of the electricity needs of the factory unit in Tapiószele will be met by electricity generated from renewable sources. The company started the investment to increase energy efficiency of the plant and it will carry out several energy improvements within the factory unit area.

Ganz is building a solar power plant with a total rated output of 2 MW on a 3-hectare site at its transformer and rotating machine manufacturing plant. Construction work officially began on 18 October. The project installation is crucial for Ganz’s Energy Optimization Programme and is expected to be completed before the end of the year, with a significant portion of the plant’s energy needs covered by solar power from the second quarter of 2024.

As an important player in the European market for exceptional high-voltage electrical gear, such as transformers, motors and generators, Ganz wants to make the operation of its central factory sustainable and significantly improve its energy efficiency. It has launched the Energy Optimization Programme to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable development. The program brings together the company’s investments in energy optimization and modernization. Ganz plans to reduce its carbon emissions by almost 40% by the end of 2024.

The company intends to increase the energy efficiency and the rate of utilization of renewable energy in its manufacturing processes and improve the efficiency of its factory buildings. In addition to installing new mechanical engineering solutions, it intends to further reduce the amount of gas it uses with thermal insulation.

“Ganz has undergone great development in recent years: it has stabilized its operations and international position, as well as taken significant steps in digitalization. Now we can further advance our company and focus on making production processes as sustainable as possible as prominent players in the energy market. The solar park planned next to our Tápiószele plant is the first and perhaps the most important step in our company’s comprehensive sustainability efforts,” said Gergely Gál, Managing Director of Ganz.

Ganz received nearly HUF 1.9 billion (€4.9 million) in non-repayable grants to support its sustainability goals under the Factory Rescue Programme, which provides support for large companies for investments in energy efficiency and energy production.
