Hungary, Szolnok/Tápiószele: The Ganz Metal Works Ltd. plant in Szolnok, Hungary resumed production.

The site, bought back by the parent company in 2021, will manufacture the external steel structures of transformers for the transformer plant of Ganz Transformers and Electric Rotating Machines Ltd. in Tápiószele. The development, worth a total of €3.8 million, will create around 50 jobs in Szolnok, and enable the company to integrate a new element of the value chain of transformer production into its activities, improving the competitiveness and security of supply of its production.

Most of the €3.8 million for the development plan will be spent on improving production technology and increasing the site’s energy efficiency. The full investment program is expected to be completed by 2024, but the first employees joined in June this year and the factory recently began trial operations.

Restarting production was an important strategic move for Ganz, as these steel structures were previously made in Turkey. Manufacturing in Hungary will shorten supply chains, reduce security of supply risks, and improve quality assurance and manufacturing competitiveness. As a result, Ganz can offer its customers even greater security and predictability than before. The Szolnok plant will also handle assembly orders for other external clients.

“The resumption of production in Szolnok is another important milestone in the life of our company. The development of the site will further reduce our dependence on external suppliers. This will make manufacturing processes more efficient, supply chains shorter and more sustainable. We are confident that with our investment we will actively contribute to the revival of Szolnok’s industrial tradition and to the city’s sustainability,” said Gergely Gál, Managing Director of Ganz Metal Works Ltd.

Ganz’s other investments in 2023 include the official start of construction of a 2 MW solar park at Tápiószele, worth €11 million, meaning that a significant part of the energy needs there will be covered by electricity from renewable energy sources.
