USA, Littleton: An electrical transformer on an Xcel Energy pole near downtown Littleton exploded and briefly caught fire, startling neighbors in the area and causing a power outage.

The incident caused a power outage in the area, but the fire quickly extinguished itself, and officials said no injuries were reported. The initial 911 call came in at 10:08 a.m. on Dec. 7, South Metro Fire Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst said. He added that the fire didn’t spread to any buildings and, by the time South Metro fire crews arrived, the fire and smoke were nonissues.

The Arapahoe Community College Campus Police and the Littleton Police Department also responded to the scene. Xcel Energy spokesperson Tyler Bryant said the power outage lasted from 10:07 a.m. until 11:53 a.m. and affected 36 customers in the area. The outage was due to an arrestor failure on the terminal pole, Bryant said. “We appreciate our customers’ patience as our crews worked to restore electricity service as quickly and safely as possible,” he added.
