South Africa, Johannesburg: City Power are ‘working around the clock’ to complete Observatory substation repairs.
The substation was gutted by fire on the morning of Dec 2. The utility’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says despite the progress, full power is only likely to be restored by Saturday.
“We are still on track to restore full power supply to all affected customers within the committed seven days. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the outage disrupting the lives of the residents in the area. City Power is committed to ensuring that the power is restored.”
Mangena adds that the faults on the remaining feeders have been located, and repairs are underway, with some areas having had their power restored and others not.
“Customers feeding from Bellevue Substation will remain off until all cables are laid, terminated, and connected. Trenching, cable laying, and jointing continue throughout the night. Repairs on the 88kV oil-filled cable will continue throughout the night. The following areas were restored: Kensington, Bezuidenhout Valley, Doornfontein, Bruma, Cyrildene, De Wetshof, and Parts Observatory and Cyrildene. We urge customers in the areas above to log individual calls if they are still experiencing power outages. The following areas have not been restored yet: Bellevue, Bellevue East, Houghton Estate, Linksfield Ridge, Cyrildene South, Malvern, Lorenz Ville, Kensington Ext, Judith Paarl, Troyeville, Yeoville, and the surrounding areas,” he added.
