Nigeria, Abuja: The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the destruction of three of its towers along the Maiduguri – Damaturu transmission line with explosives.

The TCN’s general manager, public affairs, Ndidi Mba, stated this in a statement issued on December 29. The attack occurred on December 28. She disclosed that the incident killed an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC).

“It’s truly another very sad day for us at TCN, with this incident, especially with the loss of life of the NSCDC official. We commiserate with the family of the deceased and NSCDC,” she said.

Earlier, vandals attacked the transmission towers in Yobe and Borno states and disrupted power in some parts of the states. Amid struggles to upgrade Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure, the TCN towers have been at the receiving end of vandals’ attacks. At least 108 power transmission towers were destroyed by vandals in various parts of the country between January 2022 and September 2023.
