UAE, Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is in talks to build a solar power plant in Iraq with an output capacity of 1000 MW (1 GW) in the first phase.

The Iraqi News Agency reported on Friday that Masdar officials discussed the project with Iraq’s Electricity Minister Ali Fadil in Baghdad on Thursday. The agency quoted Fadil as saying that the project would be referred to the cabinet for approval, including considerations for tax exemptions for the investor. The minister did not mention project costs or location. It is notable that Iraq has awarded contracts to a number of foreign firms over the past months for the construction of solar parks with a combined generation capacity of 7500 MW.
