Jordan to supply 40 MW to Iraq

An agreement has been signed by Iraq and Jordan start the supply of 40 MW of electricity to Al-Rutbah district in Anbar Governorate.

Jordan, Amman/Iraq, Baghdad: The power will be supplied over a 132 kV interconnection between the two countries, which was completed in October 2022 as part of the first phase of their interconnection project.

The agreement was signed by Amjad Rawashdeh, General Manager of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), on the Jordanian side and Riad Aribi Maklif, Acting General Manager of the General Company for Electricity Transmission – Middle Region on the Iraqi side.

Rawashdeh noted that the billing modalities are still being finalised by the sides to compensate Jordan. He added that work on the second phase should be completed in the third quarter of 2024, which will increase the transfer capacity to Iraq to approximately 150-200 MW. Thr second phase involves a 400 kV line supplying Qaim region on the Iraqi side. Also, with further development in the medium term, the transfer capacity could reach 500 MW.
