Substation fire causes blackout in Argentina

A fire ignited at an electrical substation in the Caballito area of Buenos Aires on Saturday, February 10, and left over 60000 people without power.

 


Substation fire leaves thousands without electricity in Argentina

Argentina, Buenos Aires: A substation of the Edesur company in Caballito caught fire at around 3 PM on Saturday. Firefighters and emergency crews were quickly on the scene battling the flames. The fire caused a power outage and reportedly left over sixty thousand people in Buenos Aires without electricity.

The substation and the surrounding buildings and houses in the neighbourhood were evacuated due to the thick smoke and rising temperatures. The cause of the fire is not known as of now, but it has been revealed by the authorities that the flames started on the ground floor and first floor of electrical substation 122, a building 25 meters wide and 40 meters deep, and later moved up the back of an adjacent building.
