A Zimbabwean company, Optate Africa, plans to establish a 200 MW wind farm in Mayobodo, Mangwe, in Plumtree, Matabeleland South Province.

Zimbabwe, Mangwe: The project should be carried out in partnership with GE, and Optate Africa has sought a 25-year lease from Mangwe Rural District Council for 100 hectares of land to set up the wind farm. The company said that part of the power generated by the project will be sold to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA). Also, a fraction will be sold to the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement and another will be supplied to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). The company announced that a social Impact Assessment was done and permission was granted by community elders.
