Brazil/UK, London: EDP Brasil is a fully owned subsidiary of EDP (Energias de Portugal). Actis’ acquisition of the 743 km transmission line sees the company deploy capital in the lowest-risk segment of Brazil’s power value chain while helping support the transition to renewable energy and a decarbonised system. Currently, Brazil is revising targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 53% from 2005 levels by 2030.

The transmission sector is particularly important in Brazil, as renewables account for almost 45% of the energy demand, and it is key to meeting this growing power demand. Most Brazilian generation plants are situated far from the consumer base, making transmission lines essential infrastructure.

The transmission line is the first asset acquired by Actis to create a new transmission platform in Brazil, as part of its approach to investing in long life infrastructure, with further capital allocations into the sector planned for the coming years. This investment follows the company’s previous acquisition in 2021 for 100% of HRZ Transmissoras, another transmission platform in the country.
