India, New Delhi: In a recent meeting, the National Committee on Transmission (NCT) approved three interstate transmission system (ISTS) projects under RTM route with an aggregate outlay of INR368 crore ($44.4 million). The RTM route was preferred over the TBCB route as the schemes involve augmentation of existing assets.

One project has been awarded to Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), and two have gone to project-specific subsidiaries of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. These subsidiaries, WRSS XXI (A) Transco Ltd and Jam Khambaliya Transco Ltd, are developers of ISTS schemes awarded earlier, under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route.

The first project by PGCIL involves the augmentation of transformation capacity by 2×500 MVA (7th & 8th), 400/220kV ICTs at Tumkur (Pavagada) 400/220 kV Pooling Station in Karnataka. The cost is INR116 crore, and its implementation time is 18 months.

The second project in Gujarat involves the augmentation of transformation capacity at Jam Khambaliya Pooling Station. It is to be developed by Jam Khambaliya Transco Ltd with an implementation time of 21 months. The cost is INR110 crore.

The final project, also in Gujarat, is the augmentation of transformation capacity at Lakadia substation. It will be implemented by WRSS XXI (A) Transco Ltd with a cost of INR142 crore within 18 months.
