Botswana: Energy firm Tlou Energy has completed the construction of a 66 kV transmission line, connecting the Lesedi gas to power project in Botswana with both the national grid and the regional Southern African Power Pool.

The transmission network is linked to the Serowe substation, pending the installation of a switchgear at the substation and the completion of an additional substation in Lesedi before activation. The Lesedi substation which is crucial for integrating the transmission line with Lesedi’s power generation plants is currently at 38% completion.

Tlou Energy is seeking funds to finalize the entire Lesedi gas to power project with a target to activate the transmission line by mid-2024. The project will deliver electricity, ensuring energy security and affordability for consumers in Botswana and southern Africa as part of a 100 MW Power Purchase Agreement signed with state utility Botswana Power.
