SGEL to develop 1.35 GW of solar projects in India

India, Maharashtra: SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of state-run SJVN, has been awarded contracts to develop solar projects with a total capacity of 1,352 MW in Maharashtra, which are valued at INR7436 crore ($900 million), and are said to represent a significant step towards expanding India’s renewable energy capacity.

The projects will be located at 4 sites: Nashik, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Pune, as part of the Mukhya Mantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0, aligning with the goal of solarising agriculture feeders, reducing dependency on conventional power sources, and enhancing the sustainability of agricultural operations. The projects were secured through a competitive bidding process organized by MSEB Agro Power Limited, Maharashtra, which had a total tender capacity of 7 GW. SGEL’s bid included proposals for 500 MW in the first round and 1 GW in the second.
