Nigeria, Abuja: Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has boosted the capacity of the Port Harcourt main substation with the inauguration of a 100 MVA 132/33 kV power transformer. Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, said the transformer would enhance the bulk transmission capability of the substation by 80 MW.

Mbah said that the initiative, a TCN-World Bank project, also included complete rehabilitation and expansion of 132/33 kV transmission substation and the addition of three feeders and associated accessories. She added that with the installation of the transformer, the substation’s capacity increased from 180 MVA to 280 MVA.

It has also been stated that several other projects are ongoing in the region, aiming to bolster bulk power transmission. The Port Harcourt Sub-region recently received four power transformers including two units of 100 MVA capacity transformers, one each at Port Harcourt Main and Port Harcourt Town transmission substations. Mbah added that TCN remained steadfast in its effort to put in place a robust, and more efficient transmission grid through strategic initiatives and project implementation across regions, and that it was also committed to swift maintenance and fault response by ensuring it had available, necessary spare parts in its stores nationwide.
