UK, London: UK-based Statera Energy Limited has secured planning approval from the East Devon District Council for its 290 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project, to be directly connected to the local Exeter substation. The system will have a discharge duration of six hours, and should be connected to the grid in 2027. According to the company, it will be able to power over 650000 homes once operational.

The project will be the company’s sixth operational battery. Its first systems, at Pelham and Creyke Beck, were switched on in 2017 and have been successfully storing electricity to instantaneously power around 100000 homes each.
