Japan: A consortium of which Spanish company Iberdrola is a part has won the rights to develop a 375 MW wind farm off the coast of Japan in the country’s latest auction. The GK Happo Nioshiro Offshore Wind partnership consists of Iberdrola, Japan Renewable Energy Co and Tohoku Electric Power Co.

Danish turbine manufacturer Vestas will supply 25 of its 15 MW turbines for the project off Happo Town and Noshiro City in Akita Prefecture on Honshu, Japan’s main island. The wind farm is expected to begin operations in June 2029.
