India, Uttar Pradesh: Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) has been awarded an intrastate transmission system (InSTS) scheme in Uttar Pradesh. According to bid process coordinator REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL), the project SPV “Meerut Shamli Power Transmission Ltd” was transferred to MEIL on April 6, 2024. The company won the project under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route.

MEIL’s tariff quote was Rs.221.90 million ($2.67 million), lower than the Rs.455.40 million ($5.47 million) quoted by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), the other contender, with the quote representing the levelized annual transmission charges prevailing throughout the tenure of the transmission service agreement (TSA). The transmission project involves the construction of a 400 kV double-circuit, around 100 km long, from PGCIL’s 765 kV Meerut substation to Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Ltd’s (UPPTCL) 400 kV Shamli GIS substation, and it is scheduled to commission in 12 months.

According to T&D India, this project is the third intrastate transmission scheme in Uttar Pradesh won by MEIL under the TBCB route. The earlier two, Tirwa Transmission Ltd and Jewar Transmission Ltd, were handed over to MEIL in early March. The company is also present in the InSTS space in Madhya Pradesh through “MP Power Transmission Package-I Ltd”, won under the TBCB route in January 2023.
