Australia, Queensland: French renewables company Neoen SA has received federal government approval for its 330 MW Mount Hopeful wind farm in Central Queensland. The permit was issued under national environment law, meaning that it includes strict conditions for the protection of the natural habitat and endangered animal species, with special conditions set to protect the southern and central greater glider, southern yellow-bellied glider, koala and northern quoll.

The project will support the statewide closure of coal-fired power plants. It will be able to deliver electricity to 240000 homes annually. The location will be roughly 45 km (28 mi) south of Rockhampton, with the site equipped with 63 turbine generators that will help offset up to 813000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. Battery storage is also envisioned.

About 65% of the proposed park’s output has been contracted by Queensland government-owned Stanwell Corp, with the company signing a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 215 MW portion of the capacity. During the construction phase, the project will open up 220 jobs, and construction should take 24 months.
