Algeria, Algiers: Algeria has kicked off a new solar power project, which forms part of a scheme to build 15 such plants to expand renewable energy production and save hydrocarbon resources. The ground stone for the planned 80 MW plant was laid by Oil Minister Mohammed Arkab. The project will be located in Northern Ouled Djellal city.

The project is reported to be the third to be launched by Algeria in 2024 as part of the aforementioned scheme. The 15 solar power plants would have a combined generation capacity of 2000 MW. The power plant will be built by the Chinese consortium of CWE-HXCC-YREC (China Electricity and Water Company/ Chinese Nuclear Industries Corporation and the Yellow River Company for Consulting Engineering). All 15 power plants are expected to be awarded within 10 months.
