UAE, Abu Dhabi: UAE’s Masdar and Bapco Energies of Bahrain have entered a partnership to collaborate on the development and investment of up to 2 GW of wind projects in Bahrain. The deal marks Masdar’s strategic entry into the Bahrain market, and its first venture into near-shore and offshore wind farm projects in the region. The partnership could help Bahrain expedite the decarbonisation of key industrial sectors and create opportunities for market expansion. Bahrain’s National Energy Strategy targets a 30% reduction in emissions by 2035 and aims for net-zero emissions by 2060.

Masdar has developed several important wind projects, such as the 400 MW Dumat Al Jandal wind farm, the largest in the Middle East and the first in Saudi Arabia, the 630 MW London Array offshore wind project in the UK and the 103.5 MW UAE Wind Programme, which utilises innovative technology to capture low wind speeds at utility scale. Masdar is aiming for a renewable energy portfolio capacity of 100 GW by 2030.
