USA, New York: Four Siemens Energy high voltage transformers intended for Ørsted and Eversource Energy’s 924 MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm have arrived in New York. These transformers mark Siemens Energy’s first HVDC offshore grid connection in the US, and are on their way to Brookhaven, New York. The companies jointly took a final investment decision on the project in March 2024.

The wind farm is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) east of Montauk, New York, and is expected to be the country’s largest offshore wind farm upon completion. It will be able to generate enough renewable energy to power nearly 600000 New York homes. The project should be operational in 2026. Eversource Energy last month finalised definitive documents regarding its agreement to sell its 50% ownership stake in the project to Ørsted, with the transaction expected to close later this year.
