SSEN Transmission has announced it has selected Sumitomo Electric Industries and its subsea cable installation partner, Van Oord Offshore Wind UK as preferred bidder for Shetland 2.

The work enables the interconnector to be brought back to optimal conditions.

The line will connect the UK and the Netherlands with offshore wind farms, providing clean energy, and help reduce household bills.

The substation is one of five to be built as part of SSEN Transmission’s Argyll and Kintyre 275 kV Reinforcement Project.

The location was chosen for its proximity to key clients and partners and connections to employees.
