General Description

OMICRON is a leading manufacturer of primary and secondary test equipment for electric power systems. The Application Engineer will be responsible for providing high-level technical and application support of our primary and secondary products to our customers in the Asia region. The position is to be located in our OMICRON Service Center in Korea and will be reporting to Country Manager, South Korea.

Your tasks

  • Provide focused expertise and guidance to the industry and peers on OMICRON Primary and Secondary test instruments and their applications.
  • Direct involvement with power system apparatus diagnostics, such as, power transformer, instrument transformer, switchgear, rotating machines and ancillary equipment.
  • Direct involvement with power system protection & communications schemes in the generation, transmission & distribution areas along with knowledge of metering and reclosers.
  • Provide product consultation, training and support on protective relay and scheme testing, power system protection, automation and control, instrument transformer testing, metering and transmission & distribution applications theory to our customer base.
  • Support the marketing & sales activities of OMICRON by actively performing on-site sales demos, participating in trade shows, user meetings and workshops.
  • Conduct customer visits to develop, maintain, and improve customer relations and increase revenues.
  • Develop and deliver training for OMICRON’s products, both in person and with webinars.
  • Product consultation and training on electrical theory and diagnostic methods, including application, data analysis, power system apparatus evaluation and report generation to our customer base. Topics will include, but are not limited to: Power Factor (PF), Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), Dielectric Frequency Response Analysis (DFR), and Partial Discharge (PD).
  • Assist in updating and maintaining Customer Relationship Management tools (CRM).
  • Coordinate all technical issues with OMICRON’s sales representatives and distributors.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems for customer and sales support.
  • Provide input on new products, product strategies, product marketing, development, and application needs.
  • Manage and develop application notes and technical papers, including presentations at relevant seminars/conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Country Manager, South Korea.

Your profile

  • You have sound knowledge and site experience in the field of Power Systems, knowledge of protection, automation and control systems are a plus
  • You have a good knowledge of testing methodologies and maintenances practices used to assure a continuous and reliable power system
  • You see your challenge in the analysis and solving of customer requests while building relationships
  • You want your enthusiasm for technology to connect with your job
  • You have effective communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships utilizing a positive learning based approach both within our organization and with external customers/suppliers
  • You have the ability to present products, technologies and test methodologies to technicians, engineers, supervisors, managers and executives via telephone, email, visits, exhibits or webinars.
  • You should have the ability to work in a successful (small) team environment with international roots
  • You should have reputable business and work ethics & personal character
  • You have an excellent command of English; other languages would be a plus
  • You enjoy traveling (up to 50%)

Work Experience

  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience of on-site testing and field diagnostics of power system apparatus
  • 5+ year of proven experience in the utility, OEM or consulting services
  • Experience in testing and diagnostics of relay and protection schemes are a plus
  • In-dept in power systems, especially in the fields of power system protection and power utility communication

Education

  • You have a Bachelor or/and Master degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant experience
