Electricity Operations is responsible for the electrical transmission and distribution systems in the City of Edmonton, with a focus on safety, reliability, and innovative and practical solutions. Our employees look after electrical infrastructure as well as the underground and aerial distribution networks.
Brief Description
EPCOR currently has one (1) permanent full-time position available, located in Edmonton, AB!

The Engineer, Transmission is accountable for Transmission engineering projects at all of EPCOR’s substations. This includes ensuring capital planning & execution and achieving the required outcomes within specified time frames.
Detailed Description
Reporting to the Manager, P&C Engineering you will be accountable for (but not limited to):
Being accountable for capital planning & execution, including teamwork with technologists and technical staff, and other EPCOR groups.
Managing Transmission project engineering (design, scope, relay setting calculations), procurement (equipment specifications), construction packages (drawing mark-ups, drawing approvals, relay setting files, checklists), commissioning, and as built documentation.
Providing input to the Transmission Engineering business plans and directions.
Identifying the necessary budget requirements for the provision of leading edge, but reliable technology for life cycle or performance improvement capital projects.
Analyzing and identify issues impacting operational performance and establishing initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure productivity, quality, reliability, cost effect, and on time delivery of capital projects.
Developing, implementing and reviewing Transmission Engineering processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensuring mitigation of risks.
Providing input to P&C system modelling and performance.
Responsible for integration of P&C systems.
Providing P&C technical support.
Providing input to Transmission asset management.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Professional Engineer with B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with Power System Engineering options or equivalent P.L (Eng.)
7 years of experience in Transmission & Distribution Substation Protection & Control Relaying applications, including, design, procurement and commissioning.
Experience with Transmission relaying schemes such as: transformer protection, transformer OLTC/VRR, bus protection, breaker controls, breaker failure protection, transmission line protection, capacitor bank protection, feeder protection, and underfrequency load shedding.
Demonstrated expertise in Transmission Engineering and Protection & Control.
Previous experience with Capital project planning & execution.
Expertise with computer applications such as MS office, engineering (such as PTC Mathcad), drafting, electrical modeling, and P&C relaying software.

To ensure success in this role, you must have excellent time management skills combined with superior planning and organizational skills. These abilities are supplemented with excellent verbal and written communication skills,

Other demonstrated competencies required to be successful in this position include proactive thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.

A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
