Established in 1933 with a proud history, Wilson Transformer Company (WTC) is Australia’s largest manufacturer of distribution and power transformer solutions operating two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne with service facilities across Australia and in the UK.

As Quality Manager you will be Melbourne based in our Power Transformer Business Unit. You will ensure a customer-focused approach, aligning with Quality Objectives to meet stakeholder expectations and will oversee the quality team and quality aspects of the business, including auditing, monitoring, and assessing manufacturing processes against internal and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Champion the improvement of the Quality Integrated Management System (QIMS),
  • Oversee timely preparation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) in accordance with WTC standards and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with WTC and industry processes, utilising insights from non-conformances to continuously improve operational procedures.
  • Leading a team of QA engineers, you will facilitate thorough investigation and resolution of test incidents using structured methods such as 5 Whys and 8D.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with business stakeholders, including Sales, Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance and the Service Business Unit to drive desired quality outcomes.
  • Manage third-party audits and internal audit programs, contributing to business plan objectives through comprehensive quality reporting and metrics.

To be successful, you will have the following:

  • Degree in engineering, science, business management, or related fields (Required)
  • Diploma or higher in Quality Management or Auditing (Required)
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of AS4801, ISO9001, ISO14001 and other Standards as required.
  • Engineering-based manufacturing quality assurance and management experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in interpersonal communication, oral and written English.
  • Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Open-minded and receptive to new ideas and suggestions.
  • Strong analytical thinking and engineering aptitude.
  • Expertise in systematic problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Customer-centric with a deep understanding of commercial objectives.
  • Ability to build strong rapports with key stakeholders.
  • Curious and research-oriented, stays updated on industry trends.
  • Highly motivated and goal-oriented, excels in driving change and leading teams.
  • Demonstrates integrity, trustworthiness, and ethical conduct

Knowledge of design and manufacturing of power transformers, requirements and certification of transformers to FM Global standards & IEEE and IEC standards highly regarded.

Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or similar tools including principles embedded in the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly methodology highly regarded.
