Summary

The Specialist Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for design and development of electrical power equipment for shipboard applications and design support of other applications. The Specialist Electrical Engineer shall provide power electronics engineering support for design, development, integration, operation and sustaining of electrical components, equipment and systems under moderate supervision. The Specialist Electrical Engineer shall participate in all stages of development from design through manufacturing support and system integration.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interpret customer specifications to define requirements for power electronics circuits and systems design.
  • Starting from conceptual phase, provide detail design and select components for high frequency switch mode power converters and inverters, transformer rectifiers, analog circuits, filter assemblies, capacitor assemblies, control loops and/or magnetic components.
  • Perform engineering analysis of power electrical circuits and systems using ORCAD PSPICE and/or MATLAB SIMULINK.
  • Perform hardware bring-up and integration of power electronics circuits and modules and support power conversion systems hardware/software integration.
  • Provide complete documentation of the developed power electronics circuits and modules including design reports, electrical schematics, wirelists, parts list, and product verification test plans/procedures.
  • Provide sustaining engineering and troubleshooting on existing products supporting manufacturing and test departments.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing, production and fielded equipment.
  • Specialist Electrical Engineer will take directions from Program Manager, Project Engineer, Program Manager or Power Engineering Department Manager.

Qualifications

  • Must have design familiarity with basic analog circuits and power conversion topologies Buck and Boost Converters and electrical components IGBTs, MOSFETs and SCRs used in power switching applications.
  • Schematic capture experience using Cadence Capture is preferred.
  • Circuit analysis applications, ORCAD PSPICE preferred, MATLAB SIMULINK a plus.
  • Must have effective communication skills and be able to work as a member of the design team with other Power Design Engineers, Digital and Analog Engineers, System Engineers and Software Engineers.
  • Must have familiarity and experience with test equipment including oscilloscopes, power scopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, voltage and current transducers, and temperature data acquisition modules.
  • Magnetics design and closed control loop design experience, a plus.
  • Ability to work and lead a small team of engineers on a variety of projects.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearnace.
  • Ability to travel 10% of time
