Transformers Magazine’s Industry Navigator Conference 2021

About

Navigating one’s way to developing a successful business requires a solid strategy. Transformers Magazine has recently conducted an industry-wide research with more than 50 questions about technology and business development, covering the entire value chain. The research results are available in the Transformers Magazine’s Industry Navigator research

The purpose of this conference is to present and discuss the results of this research, as well as to tackle other industry-wide relevant and compatible topics, with the aim to support corporate management and management responsible for technology and market development in informed decision making.

More about the Transformers Magazine’s Industry Navigator research

The research results include answers to more than fifty questions of strategic importance frequently asked by corporate managers, innovation managers and other senior staff responsible for strategic management in companies running a transformer-related business. In addition, the results were analysed with respect to different parameters, and they are available in the Transformers Magazine’s Industry Navigator report. This report is included in certain conference fee packages.

Some of the questions answered in the research are:

  • What will be your customers’ requirements in terms of functionality, materials, components, service, etc.?
  • What will be the customers’ buying criteria?
  • How likely is it that they will buy new technology-based solutions?

    About the presentation

    In this presentation the need for sustainability and longevity in the transformer industry amidst disruptive new energy norms and legislation, the continued global demand for electricity, and a changing competitive landscape will be addressed.

    In this sense, we will discuss mergers and acquisitions – past and present – as a means to ensure sustainable business growth amidst a volatile business environment.

    Presenter’s biography

    Chris Gerber is a former Transformer OEM CEO with noticeable experience in the transformer and energy industry. He has worked for and cooperated with some of the most noticeable transformer utilities in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. He has been involved in several mergers and acquisitions as well as buyouts within the transformer industry particularly in Europe over the last 15 years. He is a former university lecturer in business management and holds degrees from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and the VUB in Brussels, Belgium. He is the founder and senior partner of Genesiss Consulting & Advisory services, a boutique consultancy firm offering management and technical consulting services to companies and their stakeholders in the energy industry. He is also an advisor to several companies. Mr. Gerber is also the author of several published articles on the transformer industry and mergers and acquisitions.

    About the presentation

    Retirement of many senior experts presents an industry-wide problem because of the risk of losing their precious experience. E-learning through Transformers Academy turned out to be a good instrument for educating younger colleagues. This learning experience is now available at a new level: Diploma study programmes.     About the presentation

    Transformers Magazine’s innovation survey, filled out by strategic transformer industry leaders, shows interesting trends indicating where our industry could be heading.

    The survey has also yielded some signalling results, such as the lack of skills in the workforce, and people clearly being a major bottleneck of the transformer innovation process. This may refer to, for example, the need to oursource certain innovation processes.

    Presenter’s biography

    Jean Sanchez is a senior transformer engineer at EDF, the leading French generation utility He is working, in particular, on transformers and high-voltage bushings fleet assessments, specific tests and investigations, and factory acceptance tests (FAT). He completed an industrial PhD on formalization of power transformer fault diagnosis in 2011. In between, he performed fleet assessments and specific tests on turbo and hydro generators, and managed hydro power plants exploitation at EDF.

    Mladen Banovic is a scientist and innovator in the field of energy transmission with over 20 years of technical and managerial experience.
    He currently holds the positions of Director and Editor-in-Chief at Merit Media Int. – the company behind the Transformers Magazine, Transformers Academy and Transformers Forum brands.
    During his career, he managed development of products and systems for worldwide use in electric power grids up to 1200 kV (currently the highest level in the world), the development and deployment of systems for smart grid and automated design, testing, diagnostic and monitoring systems.
    Education: PhD, MSc, and BSc degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.
    Affiliations: IEEE Senior Member, member of CIGRE and the European Association of Science Editors
    (EASE).
