Isoletri components for transformers insulation

Cellulose insulation

One of the crucial elements in all electrical devices and machines is the insulation system. The purpose of insulating materials is to isolate electrical circuits from each other and from other conductive parts or components. Electrical transformers are used to convert alternating current energy from one voltage level to another, and insulation system is the most critical component for their proper and reliable functioning, but even more so for their long and economical operational life. This is especially true when it comes to solid insulation because all the other transformer parts and components can be economically repaired or replaced, but solid insulation cannot. For many decades cellulose based insulating materials have been considered a satisfactory solution when it comes to the transformer design. We do agree they are still a preferred solution in most transformer applications, however, we also see a lot of opportunities to improve their characteristics and potentially extend their use in transformer applications in which it has not been possible to use them so far. For that reason, we believe that one of the key directions to take, in order to improve the reliability and economics of a transformer operation, is the development of solid, cellulose based insulation, and carrying on with the advancement of its properties. When developing insulating materials in such a way, final insulation products will enable transformer designers to reduce overall dimensions of power transformers and thus reduce the construction costs, without affecting transformer performance. It can even improve the performance.

Research and innovation

Isoletri, being a manufacturer of insulation components for transformers, especially moulded components, for nearly two decades, has been researching ways and possibilities to improve both the components and the production process. All of our studies that we have conducted so far were focused on improving dielectric, mechanical, and thermal properties, but also on reducing dimension and weight of the cellulose moulded parts. Improving these characteristics of our components adds to the innovation aspect of our production process, which enables us to produce quality parts in less time, therefore making us strong contenders in a very competitive market. We have been working on this together with scientists specialized in paper process and cellulose chemistry from University of Sao Paolo, Brazil.
