This interview is a part of the WiPE – Women in Power Engineering rubric of the Transformers Academy, which was held live on the International Women’s Day, 8 March 2022, and conducted by Mazana Armstrong, Senior Manager of the High Power Lab at Powertech Labs, a subsidiary of BC Hydro.

The purpose of the WiPE rubric is to highlight some female colleagues with a significant impact in our industry in order to empower all women working in our field.

I was intrigued by the possibility of a chemical engineer working in the transformer industry, and I found so many possibilities and potentials for research that I decided to stay and pursue my PhD

Sruti Chakraborty is a research engineer and budding entrepreneur with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology-Jaipur, India. She is the co-founder of Seetalabs SRL, an innovative tech start-up located in Turin, Italy. She develops low-cost solutions for risk management and failure mitigation of industrial assets, including power transformers.

She is hugely passionate about optimizing asset reliability and reducing data complexities in the transformer industry using artificial intelligence (AI). She works closely with industry partners and other organizations to improve their transformer asset management experiences. She also hosts periodic tech-talks with industry professionals on various challenges and solutions in the field of clean technology, AI, cyber-security, and smart grids.
