The Minister of Energy and Mines in Peru, Mr Jorge Merino, inaugurated redevelopment of Cajamarca Norte substation, which will double the electrical power for the city of Cajamarca and the surrounding towns improving the service quality and preventing restrictions in several provinces of the region.

Merino said the commissioning of the new transformer for Cajamarca Norte substation means providing more reliable power to meet energy growth in the region and consolidate the running rural electrification programmes.

“To date, the power from Cajamarca Guadalupe substation in the Libertad region comes through a line of 60 kV, but the new transformer allows connection to a 220 kV. The power is supplied from Ancash, ensuring the adequate power supply for the growing city of Cajamarca and other provinces, doubling the power of 30 MW to 60 MW,” he said.

The work will also meet electricity demand without restrictions in the provinces of Cajamarca, Celendin, San Marcos and Cajabamba, and provinces of Bolivar and Sanchez Carrion.
