France, Levallois-Perret: Alstom has been awarded a € 5 million ($ 6.7 million) contract by power plant operator Vattenfall Generation AG to deliver and install two 110 kV gas-insulated substations in the Jänschwalde and Schwarze Pumpe lignite power plants in Brandenburg, Germany.

Alstom will deliver gas-insulated 110 kV substations type F35, in a compact double busbar design with all related power equipment. The turnkey substations will be delivered, installed and commissioned by the end of 2014.

The aim is to ensure a steady supply of electricity to the power plants so that they can operate independently of local power supply, reports Newswire Today.

“This very compact system ensures high reliability and availability of the grid network. These projects confirm Alstom’s leading position on the market for gas-insulated substations and open up new cost-saving opportunities for our customers.” says Axel Kossmann, Head of Sales at Alstom Grid Germany.

Alstom has built 20,000 gas-insulated substations over 45 years in around 100 countries worldwide.
