USA, New York: National Grid CEO Steve Holliday cut the ribbon on a new $16 million substation in suburban Clay, Syracuse.
Holliday praised National Grid’s investment of $3 billion to upgrade its Upstate network over the past decade, reports Syracuse.
The new Clay substation is one of 20 built or upgraded by National Grid since 2007. At the same time, the company has installed 48,000 transformers, 116,000 new utility poles and 4,000 miles of electric wire.
Holliday acknowledged that customers ultimately pay for upgrades and one of the challenges for the future will be to balance the need for additional modernisation against customers’ desire for lower bills.
