The Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) has ceased permitting private firms to repair the transformers in order to save as much money as possible per month.

In a meeting held on Saturday at the PVVNL office at Bhikharipur, the PVVNL managing director of AP Mishra said that the transformer repairs will be conducted from the 1st December onwards by all power department discoms of their respective regions.

According to the managing director, the decision has been taken because the private repairing firms charge high fees by including their 30% tax. He said that an average of 4000 transformers are expected to get damaged from October 2013 to April 2014 in the Purvanchal region, and all the departmental workshops in the region have been given the target of as many as 5000 transformers to repair per month. They will be provided with around 70 big and small instruments by the PVVNL along with 200 kl of transformer oil per month to carry on with the repairs.

According to Mishra, a control room will be established by an external agency in the senior most power official’s office of every district to keep track of the complaints regarding the transformer damage.
