New substation to be constructed in Velachery

India, Chennai: A senior official of Tangedco announced that a new 110/33/11 kV substation inside Phoenix Market City mall,Velachery, will be constructed at a cost of INR 74 crore ($12.3 million).
It has also been proposed to install an additional 16 MVA transformer in the existing substation, where three 16 MVA transformers are currently available, and a total of 50 transformers across Velachery, to prevent low voltage fluctuations, reports The Hindu.
Officials of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) said old equipment, an increase in residential population and lack of space for expansion work have caused electricity problems.
