Russia, Arkhangelsk Oblast: Arkhenergo completed the first phase of a large-scale reconstruction which included the 110/35 kV substation Kuznechevskaya.

Kuznechevskaya substation powers one of the largest industrial regions of Arkhangelsk.

Reconstruction involves replacing two old 16 MVA transformers, two 25 MVA new ones, and replacement of switchgear and relay protection. The work is being carried out in two stages. One transformer has already been installed and the second transformer and 6 kV switchgear be installed next year.

The upgrade of power substation is necessary to ensure a reliable power supply, especially during peak loads. This will eliminate the power shortage in the northern part of Arkhangelsk. More powerful electrical power industry will also reduce operating costs and provide additional resources to connect new customers.

“Reconstruction of the substation Kuznechevskaya is the key point of our investment programme this year.” said the director of Arkhenergo, Igor Kotenko. “The need for a large-scale reorganisation of the substation was obvious. We sought to transform it into a modern, powerful and energy-efficient facility that is able to withstand heavy loads and ensure uninterrupted power consumers in the face of rising volumes of energy consumption.”
