Russia, Yaroslavl Oblast: Upper Volga Cascade HPP will install four new power transformer produced by Zaporozhtransformator in Ukraine.

Replacement of power transformers is organised under the comprehensive modernisation by RusHydro, reports Rybinsk Online.

Rybinsk Hydroelectric Station originally had four single-phase transformers. Some of the equipment was replaced in 2013. Out of the four new ones, two transformers will be installed in 2015, and the other two in 2016.

The reconstruction will mean that each hydraulic unit will work with its own transformer. This will improve the reliability of power supply and increase the energy efficiency by reducing the losses in the transmission of electricity.

Implementation of comprehensive modernisation programme aimed at replacing obsolete equipment with the modern meets the requirements of the technical policy of RusHydro. One of the main objectives of the programme is to increase the reliability and safety of operation of hydroelectric power stations as well as reducing the cost of operation of the equipment due to the commissioning of the modern, high-tech equipment with extended overhaul period.
