CM reports on significant power upgrades
Upon recent report card presentation, the Chief Minister Kumar Nitish stated that Bihar was the only state in India where the local power generation was zero when he first took over. However, his commitment with massive Rs 9,000 crore grant for comprehensive reform in transmission and distribution system has paid off.

Upon recent report card presentation, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated that Bihar was the only state in India where the local power generation was zero when he first took over. However, his commitment with massive Rs 9,000 crore grant for comprehensive reform in transmission and distribution system has paid off.
“We resolved to change the situation. Availability of power in the past one year has doubled from 1,200 MW. For the first time in November this year, more than 2,300 MW was supplied, as a result of which on Diwali, Chhath and Muharram all the districts got uninterrupted power supply,” he said.
Nitish added that power supply will be increased to at least 4,000 MW within the next two years. Faulty transformers are being replaced within 24 hours in urban and 72 hours in rural areas. There is a plan to set up transformer repair workshops in every district after fifteen such workshops have already been set, according to Nitish.
CM’s report states that the Kanti thermal power plant and the thermal power project at Barh are undergoing an upgrade and are starting trial generation which should supply Bihar with 50 % of its total power generation. Barauni thermal power project and Nabinagar in Aurangabad district are also under construction due to unit upgrades and rural electrification work is under progress with 26 new power substations constructed this year to strengthen transmission and distribution system. 107 new power transformers and 997 new distribution transformers have been installed in rural areas and the CM said that out of 70,000 km, 30,000-km-long old transmission lines have already been replaced.
